Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and Grace Cottage Hospital in Townshend will both present a new series of tobacco cessation classes in the coming weeks.
Grace Cottage Hospital hosts “Your Quit. Your Way,” a free six-week tobacco cessation class from Oct. 26-Nov. 30, Tuesdays, 5-6:30 p.m., in the hospital's Community Wellness Center, 133 Grafton Rd. (Route 35). Those who have tried to quit but are still smoking are particularly encouraged to attend. Sindy Hassig, Grace Cottage physical therapist and tobacco treatment specialist, will conduct the classes. Call 802-365-3649 to register.
BMH starts its six-week class of the Vermont Quit Network on Tuesday, Nov. 2. It will be held in the Tyler Conference Room on the first floor of the main hospital. Class times are 5:15 to 6:30 p.m.
This weekly program offers group support as well as individualized strategies to help participants quit smoking for good. The tobacco cessation program provides a logical progression to quit smoking, including awareness of the smoking habit, addiction problems, and actual behavior change. Participants will experience a step-by-step process to quit smoking. Weight control, stress management, and social interactions will be covered during this program. Call 802-251-8456 to register.
Participants in either hospital's program are eligible for free nicotine replacement therapies such as patches, gum, and/or lozenges. There is no cost for either of these programs. Help is also available at the Vermont Quit Network at 800-QUITNOW.
