BRATTLEBORO — “Art is for Everyone.” That's been the credo of the In-Sight Photography Project, which welcomes the public to participate in its annual Benefit Auction and to celebrate In-Sight's 30th anniversary.
On Friday, Sept. 2, from 5 to 8 p.m., during Gallery Walk, the annual In-Sight Photography Exhibition and Benefit Auction will open with a reception and gallery viewing.
In-Sight welcomes all to its home on 183 Main St. to see a curated selection of auction and student artwork.
Founded in 1992, In-Sight Photography Project has always provided classes to youth no matter their financial circumstances.
“Over the decades, our cameras, techniques, and location have changed some, but In-Sight's mission, values, and outcomes have remained constant,” board members said in a news release. “In-Sight's Benefit Auction ensures we can stay true to our founding and core value that financial means should not limit access to the arts.”
Auction bidding is online at insightphotography.org/auction22 throughout the month of September. More than 100 photographic prints and books have been donated by local, national, and international artists as well as In-Sight's alumni, staff, and volunteers. Subject matter, media, and photographic techniques vary widely as does the price range.
The auction closing on Oct. 1 will coincide with a community celebration of In-Sight's 30th anniversary at Next Stage Arts in Putney. In-Sight will commemorate the youth who have made it come alive as they have learned about themselves, their culture, and their community through the lens of photography.
With the generosity of their board, the Brattleboro community, and beyond, In-Sight has consistently provided classes and equipment to youth, nurturing personal voice and creative vision through the photographic arts. In the last year, 86 percent of their students accessed In-Sight's programs through their scholarship fund.
