Town administrator fights cancer

Peder Rude has returned to half-time work from home

GUILFORD — Town Administrator Peder Rude, absent from recent Selectboard meetings, is battling “a very strenuous form of cancer,” said Selectboard Chair Zon Eastes this week.

Rude is expected to “be working from home for the next long term,” Eastes said.

He is up to working now almost half-time, but the town office needs help to handle the workload, which Eastes said is the biggest in many years.

While former board member Sheila Morse is volunteering to serve as acting assistant town administrator, the board appointed members Richard Wizanskey and Michael Becker to look into the process to help get support for Rude and to make recommendations to the full board.

“There are many unknowns about his condition,” Selectboard Vice Chair Verandah Porche posted in the Guilford Vermont Facebook group on April 12. “We will share updates as we have them. I know you join us in hoping for Peder's complete recovery.”
