GUILFORD — The Guilford Energy Committees is staging its second Southeastern Vermont workshop in which folks can help assemble low-cost insulating window inserts to warm their homes and reduce both heating bills and the use of fossil fuels.
These workshops are sponsored by Window Dressers, a Maine-based nonprofit organization that has helped produce more than 40,000 inserts in its 10-year history.
Volunteers, trained by experts from the committee, go to participants' homes and measure windows for a custom fit. Customers and volunteers then come together to assemble the inserts over several days. No special skills are necessary, and every simple job is taught on-site by our experts.
Participants may choose morning or afternoon shifts at the Winston-Prouty Center gym from Thursday through Wednesday, October 20–26. People work one three-hour shift for every three inserts ordered.
Window Dressers has sponsored these Builds in in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont communities. To date, the communities have collectively saved an estimated 3.4 million gallons of heating fuel since 2010, according to their website.
Now you can do this too. The Community Build takes on only about 30 homes, so interested households in the Brattleboro/Guilford area should sign up right away at WindowDressers.org or call Nancy Detra at 802-254-4762.
