BRATTLEBORO — The BUHS Music Department announces its 2022 musical, Something Rotten! with book by Karey Kirkpatrick and John O'Farrell, music and lyrics by Wayne Kirkpatrick and Karey Kirkpatrick, and conceived by Karey Kirkpatrick and Wayne Kirkpatrick.
Something Rotten! will take place on Thursday, April 7, and Friday, April 8, at 7 p.m.; and Saturday, April 9, at 2 p.m. in the Brattleboro Union High School Auditorium.
Set in the 1590s, brothers Nick and Nigel Bottom are desperate to write a hit play, but are stuck in the shadow of the Renaissance rock star, William Shakespeare. When a local soothsayer foretells that the future of theater involves singing, dancing, and acting at the same time, Nick and Nigel set out to write the world's very first musical.
The BUHS production is directed by Rebekah F. Kersten with Stephen Rice and Patty Meyer as co-musical directors, Mary Linney as the costumer, Francesca Bourgault as the choreographer, Alan Stockwell as the sound engineer, and Michelle Page as the producer.
BUHS students Kaylee Unruh and Cyrus Smith serve as the Stage Managers for the production.
The production features Ella Korson as Shakspeare, Django Grace as Nick Bottom, and Kyle Girard as Nigel Bottom. The cast also includes Kaitlyn Blouin, Silas Brubaker, Leslie Eckert, Magda Keppel, Evie Kiehle, Ghost Kuusinen, John Mosher, Genevieve Redmond, Fiona Scott, Jada Unruh, and Piper Woliver.
The show's orchestra is composed of BUHS students and local musicians; Kathy Andrew, Ben Berkson-Harvey, Greg Burnell, Wyatt Cudworth, Becky Graber, Sophia Hamm, Michelle Liechti, Patty Meyer, Virgil Neddenriep, Dorian Paquette, Stephen Rice, Hope Thibault, and Jasmine Wegiel.
Behind the scenes, many students are involved with creating costumes, running the soundboard and lights, and working as the backstage crew.
Crew members include Allison Ackerman-Hovis, Alexandra Aither, Maeve Bald, Devin Barry Stoughton, Meghan Clark, Jayden Copperthite, Christina Douglass, Jasper Everingham, Lucas Forthofer, Kyle Girard, Sophia Hamm, Zoe Humphreys, Ingrid Iselin, Jonah Johnson, Violett LaCroix, Hannah Mehl, Virgil Neddenriep, Chloe O'Connell, Kira Peale, Margot Potter, Ayianna Powell, Paige Renaud, Matylda Salisz, Genny Schneski, and Amar Vargas.
Tickets for all performances are $10 for general admission and $6 for seniors. All BUHS students are entitled to one free ticket to Something Rotten!
