BRATTLEBORO — Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts, 183 Main St., celebrates its move into spring with a large group exhibition, “Creative Edge,” which opens Saturday, March 19, at 11 a.m. There will be a gallery Artists Reception with refreshments from 5 to 7 p.m. The exhibit continues through Sunday, May 1.
Many of the 20 exhibiting artists will present new work.
“Working at the edges, literally and figuratively, they offer their visions and questions and invite us all to see and react to shared circumstances from a new or altered perspective,” gallery staff wrote in a news release. “Forced into isolation by an unforeseen two-year interruption, some artists were provided an opportunity to concentrate and continue their creative efforts. For others, focus and time were upended.”
For artist Erika Radich, she said her work was shaped by the “desire to move to a new normal that feels connected, inspired and healthy […] in spite of the surrounding dysfunction of our global community. Slowly the hope is to build incrementally the elements that sustain and balance the broken systems. We said, 'We are in this together.' Now, we must get out of this together.”
Artist Gene Parulis said he was able to “revitalize every aspect of my art and my daily wanderings” by returning his photographic work “to simple realism, the here-and-now, nature unfolding, the seasons progressing. The pandemic had curbed my world traveling, the essential source of my inspiration.”
Gallery hours are Thursdays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays, noon to 5 p.m. For information, contact the gallery at 802-251-8290 or visit mitchellgiddingsfinearts.com.
