Thanksgiving closures in Brattleboro

BRATTLEBORO - In observance of Thanksgiving, all town offices will be closed on Thursday, Nov. 25 (Thanksgiving) and Friday, Nov. 26, with the exception of emergency services.

Brooks Memorial Library will close at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 24. It will resume normal business hours on Friday.

Trash and recycling will not be picked up on Thursday. All trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day all week.

Bellows Falls hosts Open House Weekend

BELLOWS FALLS - The Bellows Falls Downtown Development Alliance (BFDDA) is planning an Open House Weekend for Friday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Nov. 29.

The organization has designated special themes for the annual local shopping weekend: Plaid Friday, Small Business Saturday, Open House/Artist Sunday, and Cider Monday.

“This holiday season, small businesses depend on the support of their communities more than ever,” organizers said in a news release. “Let's work together to empower business owners in your community and make them a part of your holiday traditions - both new and old.”

BFDDA Shop Local Cards are distributed at more than 30 locations in Bellows Falls, Grafton, Rockingham, Saxtons River, and Westminster. Check out bellowsfallsvt.org for details.

Putney monthly free produce available Nov. 29

PUTNEY - The Vermont Foodbank and the Putney Foodshelf will co-sponsor the next monthly drop of free produce and some nonperishables on Monday, Nov. 29, from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at Putney Meadows, 17 Carol Brown Way (the white building across from the Putney Food Co-op and the fire station).

All are welcome. Because of COVID-19, those who need food will receive bags of food from volunteers after driving up.

All Souls Church plans holiday bazaar

WEST BRATTLEBORO - The annual All Souls Unitarian Universalist Holiday Bazaar will take place at the church on Saturday, Dec. 4, as well as online.

A wide array of handmade artisan wreaths and ornaments, artwork, and gift baskets - all locally made - can be purchased now at special.ascvt.org.

The in-person event will take place outside the West Village Meeting House, 29 South St., from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., following Covid protocols.

Recreation & Parks Department hosts 'S'mores with Santa'

BRATTLEBORO - The Brattleboro Recreation & Parks Department will be offering “S'mores with Santa” in place of its annual “Santa Is Coming to Town” event.

S'mores with Santa will take place on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 1 to 2:30 p.m., on the Lower Softball Field at Living Memorial Park.

This free event is open to children of all ages, who can enjoy free popcorn, hot chocolate and pre-made s'more kits while supplies last.

“This event will provide a great opportunity for families to take their own social distancing photo with Santa and his elf friends,” organizers suggest.

Donations sought for holiday pet food drive

WILMINGTON - The Windham Disaster Animal Response Team (WinDART) is hosting a holiday pet food drive at Shaw's, 97 E. Main St., on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

WinDART is accepting donations of dry and canned dog and cat food, along with cat litter.

Donations will be distributed to pet families at the next Deerfield Valley Food Pantry distribution event.
