Photojournalist Sebastian Meyer to speak, teach at VCP

BRATTLEBORO — Vermont Center for Photography (VCP) will host a talk by Sebastian Meyer about his 10-year assignment as a photojournalist embedded with Kurdish forces during the Iraq war.

The in-person gathering takes place on Thursday, Oct. 14, at 5:30 p.m., at VCP's new home at 10 Green St. Admission is free, though donations are welcome.

Meyer is the co-founder of Metrography, the first Iraqi photo agency. His acclaimed monograph, Under Every Yard of Sky, published by Red Hook Editions, covers a decade of images and writings about his experience in Iraq.

After the lecture, there will be time for questions and answers, as well as a book signing by the author.

This lecture is a timely subject in light of the recent U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan and the country's relationship to those who supported U.S. military and interests.

This is a live event with distanced seating. Masks will be required. VCP has an accessible entrance at the street level, on the right side of High Street's Midtown Mall building.

Meyer is also teaching a class on photojournalism at VCP on two Saturdays, Oct. 23 and 30, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The course will cost $300 ($270 for VCP members).
