BRATTLEBORO — For the month of September, Mitchell-Giddings Fine Arts, 187 Main St., will exhibit two new artists: Gay Malin, sculpture, and Cameron Schmitz, paintings.
Also on view are two prints by Wolf Kahn, new pieces by Jim Urbaska, landscapes; prints by Emily Mason and Susan Osgood; mixed media paintings by Lisa Mackie; watercolors by Homer Johnson; sculpture by Tim Segar; and assemblages by Maine artist Lauren Pollaro.
“I use mark-making to express the constantly moving, changing, and morphing of life, leaving observers certain that they are witnessing merely a fleeting moment in time,” Schmitz writes in his artist's statement.
“As an artist, I'm deeply fascinated by imagery and color relationships that emerge when working intuitively, and from the physical act and emotive process of painting itself,” he continues.
“I feel I can say anything that I need to express through the human figure and that everyone relates to it,” says Malin about her figurative bronzes. “It is through our bodies that we experience the world in which we live. Even though our perceptions are misguiding, it is how we interpret what is going on. Our mysterious brains process this information in ways we barely understand, but this is our 'reality.'”
