Brattleboro Concert Choir plans outdoor community sing

BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Concert Choir is planning an outdoor community sing on Sunday, Aug. 8, at the Brattleboro Music Center.

The 4 p.m. event is free and open to all, although registration is required by Sunday, July 25.

The Concert Choir was in the midst of preparations for a performance of J.S. Bach's motet Jesu, meine Freude when in-person activities were shut down due to the pandemic.

Now, 17 months later, the event will allow the Concert Choir to gather with the wider community to sing the piece together.

“We'll warm up as a group, rehearse some of the trickier passages, and then sing the piece together,” Music Director Jonathan Harvey said in a news release. “Bach's work is a potent combination of transcendent triumph and deep mourning - a powerful fit for our moment.”

All registered singers will receive sheet music and practice resources via email upon registration. The event will take place under a tent, and participants are encouraged to bring their own picnic dinner, since after singing, all will celebrate with a communal meal.

Please note that masks are no longer required for those who are fully vaccinated but are required indoors for those unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated.

“All are welcome to continue wearing a mask for their own comfort and safety, and organizers ask that if those not feeling well should remain at home,” the event organizers write.
