NEWFANE — During May and June, The Crowell Gallery at Moore Free Library, 23 West St., presents “Some of This, Some of That,” a multimedia exhibit of works by artist Paul Madalinski.
A Chicago-born artist who transplanted his urban roots to Brookline in 2009, Madalinski will show a selection of his work dating from the mid-1970s to the present, including paintings, drawings, video, prints, and sculpture.
An artist reception is planned at the library on Saturday, June 5, from 1 to 3 p.m.
Madalinski is a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (MFA, 1974), and a National Endowment for the Arts/Arts Midwest grant recipient. His work is owned by both public institutions and private collectors.
“His paintings and drawings explore the transformation of ordinary places and objects to sometimes enigmatic visions that are no longer entirely familiar,” according to his biographical statement on his website. “His work is inspired by the world outside his door, wherever that is, which is then transformed by his inner vision.”
Madalinski primarily works with oil paints and with water-based media such as gouache on paper. He also uses pastels, charcoal, graphite, and sometimes printmaking techniques to achieve his vision.
