PUTNEY — Next Stage Arts Project presents 2020 Sundog Poetry Book Award winner Lucas Farrell as part of its Next Stage Speaks literary series on Thursday, April 8, at 7 p.m.
Hosted by former Vermont Poet Laureate Chard deNiord, of Westminster West, this free Zoom event celebrates the April 6 launch of Farrell's award-winning book of poems, The Blue-Collar Sun, published by the Sundog Poetry Center in the Lamoille County town of Johnson, in partnership with Green Writers Press of Brattleboro.
Farrell will read a selection of his poems, as well as answer questions from deNiord and audience members.
Originally from Aspen, Colo., Farrell, of Townshend, studied at Middlebury College and the University of Montana. His first book of poems, The Many Woods of Grief, published by University of Massachusetts Press, was awarded the Juniper Prize for Poetry.
His poems appear in many literary journals, among them Boston Review, Jubilat, and Diagram.
Farrell and his wife, Louisa Conrad, own and operate Big Picture Farm, a small hillside goat dairy and award-winning farmstead confectionery.
Sundog Poetry Center's mission is to promote poetry for all Vermonters by supporting poets in their development through workshops, readings, events, and publications. The Sundog Poetry Book Award is open to all Vermont-based poets who have not yet published a first or second book. This year's judges included Vermont Poet Laureate Mary Ruefle.
