BMH lists upcoming New Moms Network programs

BRATTLEBORO — New Moms Network is a free service of the Brattleboro Memorial Hospital Birthing Center. Moms meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Brew Barry Conference Room on the lower level of the main hospital. It is a chance for new moms (dads are also welcome) to network and learn tips from each other. Babies are warmly welcomed, of course, and need not to have been born at BMH to attend.

Programs scheduled for August include a networking day on Aug. 4. On Aug. 11, Sandy Stark of Early Education Services will present “Welcome, Baby,” a program explaining the service of the same name offered by EES. On Aug. 18, an introduction to baby massage will be presented by certified massage therapist Lisa Newell. On Aug, 25, Michelle Pong, lead prevention specialist will present “Getting the Lead Out!”

September programs planned to date include “Reading Your Baby's Secret Language”, presented by Dawn Kersula on the 1st; a baby parade for residents of the Thompson House on the 8th and a program about starting solids with dietician Chris Ellis, nutritionist associated with the Brattleboro Food Co-op on the 22nd.

The BMH New Moms Network programs are facilitated by Kersula, a BMH Birthing Center nurse. Kersula is also the Birthing Center's lactation consultant.

The next six-week Lamaze series begins Thursday evening, Aug. 12, and a One-Day Lamaze Birthshop is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 18. Call 802-257-8877 to register for either of these classes. Other perinatal classes include Baby Basics on Aug. 11 and Breastfeeding Basics on Wednesday, Sept. 8, both starting at 6 p.m.  If you are interested in attending a Sibling Class, call the BMH Birthing Center, 802-257-8226.

For more information about any of these programs, you can call 802-257-8278 to talk to Kersula or visit www.bmhvt.org and click on “Healthy Babies Programs.”
