Coming to Putney: a trapeze artist, a tightrope walker, a dog whisperer, and ‘a most talented pig’

Sandglass Theater goes back outside with ‘Footpath to the CIRCUS Puppets’

PUTNEY — Sandglass Theater will present another outdoor, live event on Halloween weekend.

The puppet cast of The Pig Act, Sandglass' unusual puppet circus from 2000, has emerged for Footpath to the CIRCUS Puppets, a performance in three acts that takes the audience around the Sandglass grounds, with roaming guides, music and puppets emerging from behind shrubbery, and an old trolley car, all in a manner that observes social distancing and audience safety.

Three generations of the Sandglass family - Ines Zeller Bass, Jana Zeller, and Shoshana Bass - have pulled puppets out of boxes, dusted them off, and restored their finery.

The acts include a trapeze artist, a tightrope walker and a dog whisperer, each with a unique twist.

The show includes special guest appearances by Chris Yerlig (mimealot.com) and an original cast member of The Pig Act, Finn Campman. Original music is composed by Ralph Denzer.

And the pig? “Well, you will surely see a most talented pig, aspiring to the heights of these circus performers with his own unique flair,” the show creators promise in a news release.

Tickets and distancing

No bathrooms will be available. To ensure health and safety and maintain social distancing while together, patrons will be seated and move about in “pod” groups. Costumes are encouraged.

Tickets are priced on a sliding scale starting at $10 per person. Show times are Friday, Oct. 30, 4 and 5 p.m.; Saturday, Oct. 31 at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 1 at 1, 2, 3, and 4 p.m.

A maximum of 16 seats at each performance is divided into no more than eight pods, so book in advance to assure your spot.

The ticket buyer will be asked to complete a form with the names and contact details (address, phone, email) for each person in the pod as well as share any accessibility needs.

At the event, patrons will complete a brief health survey and temperature check prior to admittance. All patrons will be required to wear a mask and maintain a minimum 6 feet between pod groups; the ground will be clearly measured and marked.

Sandglass Theater is at 17 Kimball Hill, Putney, next to Next Stage Arts. To book your spot, call 802-387-4051.
