BRATTLEBORO — Due to the pandemic, there is no in-person early voting in Brattleboro. However, all active registered voters were automatically mailed a ballot.
Voters are urged to follow the instructions included with the ballot, including signing the certificate envelope and making sure the ballot is inside that envelope.
Voters are asked to use a black ballpoint pen or a no. 2 pencil to mark the ballot.
“Do not use a marker, as it can bleed through to the back of your ballot and require you to need a replaced ballot,” warns Town Clerk Hilary Francis.
If you have not received your ballot, or if you have any questions about your ballot, contact the Town Clerk's office at 802-251-8157 or email Francis at [email protected].
Election information, including sample ballots, is posted on the municipal website (brattleboro.org).
Ballots can be returned using the postage-paid envelope provided or the secure drop box marked “Ballots Here” in the Municipal Center parking lot. The drop box is checked numerous times per day.
Voters may also return their ballot at the polls on Election Day.
“If you opt not to vote the received ballot and choose to vote at the polling place on Nov. 3, bring the received ballot with you,” Francis suggested. “You will not be turned away without it, but it will save time.”
Voting in person on Nov. 3
The polling place for all three districts in Brattleboro is American Legion Post 5, 32 Linden St., from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m.
Due to COVID-19, masks will be required (and provided if needed) to enter the building. Hand sanitizer or gloves will also be provided.
Voters who are unable to wear a mask and did not vote absentee may use a space outdoors to vote. “Due to social distancing and reduced capacity indoors, be prepared for potentially longer than normal wait times,” Francis warns.
Parking is available at the American Legion, the State Building, and the Municipal Center parking lots. There are disabled parking spaces close to the American Legion entrance.
A wheelchair will be immediately inside the door, with a ramp for anyone who might need it.
Unofficial election results will be posted on the town website as soon as possible after the polls close that evening.
Vermont has same-day voter registration; however, to save time on Election Day, Francis advises registering in advance at olvr.vermont.gov.
Voters may also update personal information or request a ballot at mvp.vermont.gov.
