‘Brattleboro Goes Fourth’ to move online for 2020

BRATTLEBORO — The town will move its traditional Independence Day celebration online this July 4 due to COVID-19 public safety concerns and state crowd-size limits.

The volunteer “By the People: Brattleboro Goes Fourth” citizens committee and town Recreation & Parks Department typically hold a parade downtown and family activities and fireworks at Living Memorial Park.

However, this year, the town's 47th annual free family Independence Day festivities will shift to several digital offerings.

According to a news release, this includes a two-week “Show Your True Colors” countdown, which will spotlight local essential workers, graduating seniors, veterans, and small business owners on the Brattleboro Goes Fourth Facebook page and WTSA-FM “Morning Brew” program starting June 22.

On July 4, local personality Alfred Hughes Jr. will reveal his annual surprise outfit at 10 a.m. on the Brattleboro Goes Fourth Facebook page while Brattleboro Community TV offers special rebroadcasts of past parades both over the air and streaming on its website.

This year's celebration also will salute longtime sponsors including the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, C & S Wholesale Grocers, G.S. Precision, Holstein Association USA, and the Richards Group.

More information will be publicized in June through local media outlets and the Brattleboro Goes Fourth Facebook page.
