NEWFANE — How much more can you afford to pay in taxes? This is a serious question. What else are you willing to do without in order to give to the state of Vermont?
Insurance companies have already been granted big rate hikes; unfunded pensions equal $7,000 for every man, woman, and child; gas and fuel taxes are proposed to rise in amounts that will cost most over $100 per year; you can count on another $100 or so to pay for family leave that is proposed; and the frosting on the cake is a 6-percent increase in property taxes to fund the education system.
If passed, the education budget will equal $25,000 per student. And that is after the reforms of Act 46. For heaven's sake, you can get a private school education from an accredited school with very low student-to-teacher ratios for less than that.
There is only one way to stop this insanity: Vote out the people who have no respect for your pocketbook and vote in some people with creative ideas and fiscally responsible positions.
Unless the people rise up to make change happen, we are headed toward bankruptcy.
