Hello and good day to you, residents of the peaceful and picturesque windy hamlets of southeastern Vermont! We have so many changes on the way, I'm just going to jump right in.
For Wednesday, a storm system responsible for a few morning flurries pulls away which will lead to scattered afternoon and evening snow showers and squalls. Windy and cold conditions follow at night into the morning, which will lead to a beautiful, but cold Thursday.
Snow and ice on Friday morning will change to a cool rain, with rainy conditions Saturday and Saturday night, possibly changing back to ice and a bit of snow on Sunday morning.
Fair weather returns at least through Monday, and likely into Tuesday. Let's look at the daily details to gain some more clarity to our impending atmospheric seesaw!
For Wednesday, low pressure will be tracking northeast, remaining south of Nantucket. This could produce a few flurries or snow showers during the morning, but the main snow potential will be for Wednesday afternoon and evening as a cold front approaches and produces scattered snow showers and squalls over the region.
Some coatings are possible in southeastern Windham County, but the western and northern halves could see anywhere from 1 to 4 inches in upslope snow showers by Thursday morning.
Highs on Wednesday will reach the upper 20s to low 30s. Northwest winds pick up in the evening and gust 30 to 35 mph. With lows dropping into the single digits, wind chills could reach 10 degrees below zero by early Thursday morning.
For Thursday, after a very cold start, expect a very cold day with highs in the upper teens to low 20s under mostly sunny skies. Winds should be much lighter out of the northwest. Lows will drop into the mid teens under increasingly cloudy skies.
For Friday morning, snow and ice will move into southern Vermont, and then change to rain by the afternoon with highs near 40 degrees. Some light accumulations and slippery roadways are possible. Some showers may persist into Friday night with lows in the mid to upper 30s.
During the weekend, Saturday should prove to be the mildest with highs in the low 50s as strong southwest flow develops. Another storm will approach us ahead of a cold front.
Showers should persist through the afternoon and night, but with our cold front dropping south, Sunday morning could see a flip to freezing rain and sleet.
Highs on Sunday will be in the mid to upper 30s with lows in the 20s as precipitation abates. Early next week looks fair, but seasonably cold, with highs in the 30s. Have a great week!
