Wind and snow showers for Thanksgiving

Another storm will hit the region Monday

Hello and good day to you, residents of lovely Windham County, Vermont! I hope that this past week has been a good one for you. If you're reading this, you're still up and taking nourishment, as my father likes to say. As hard as adult life is sometimes, let's work to be grateful for even the simplest gifts in our lives.

As for our weekly weather picture, we're going to see some showers move through on Wednesday. Winds will shift overnight and, by Thanksgiving Day, northwest wind gusts to 40 mph or so will be possible with some scattered snow and rain showers during the first half of the day.

High pressure will build east through southern Canada, putting us into a cooler northerly flow through Sunday.

At that time, we have to monitor a storm system that may bring a wintry messy mix of snow, ice and rain by Sunday evening, and possibly lasting into Monday. We should then see cooler but dry weather Monday night into Tuesday.

Let's paint in the dailies for you to give you a sense of what's upcoming.

For Tuesday, we'll see a light, drying westerly flow develop, which will push highs into the 45-50 degree range under mostly sunny skies. At night, the flow will start to shift to southerly, with lows in the upper 20s to low 30s across the region.

For Wednesday, warm air advection will make an attempt to warm us up, but will likely fail. If overrunning precipitation gets in here fast enough, we could see some sleet in western Windham County during the mid to late morning before we change to a cool rain by Wednesday afternoon and evening. Expect highs in the 40-45 degree range.

Showers will last into Wednesday night with lows in the low to mid 30s as low pressure passes to our north, dragging a cold front through the region.

Behind the front on Thanksgiving morning, a combination of some lake effect and wraparound moisture should bring mostly cloudy skies and scattered snow showers to western and northern parts of the county, with partly sunny skies and a few rain or snow showers in eastern portions.

Northwest winds should gust to 30-45 mph, and highs will only be in the low to mid 30s, with lows in the upper teens to low 20s as skies clear.

Friday and Saturday look very nice, but cold. High pressure will build through and produce a northerly flow with clearing skies and plenty of sunshine. Expect highs in the upper 20s to low 30s, and lows in the upper teens to low 20s.

While next Tuesday looks colder and fair, the Sunday to Monday period looks potentially stormy, with a chance for accumulating snow and ice Sunday night into Monday morning and highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s both days. Have a great week!
