GUILFORD — On Oct. 27, Broad Brook Community Center welcomed a festive crowd of apple pie enthusiasts to its third Apple Pie Social at the former grange hall in Guilford Center.
Each social encourages the community to visit with neighbors, share great pie, and hear the news.
While celebrating a full year of operating under the first phase of renovations, board members say they have been hard at work raising funds for Phase 2 to complete the project in 2020.
According to a news release, Phase 2 includes a lift to the second floor auditorium, a full sprinkler system, and other necessities to bring the building up to code. A few additional improvements include rebuilding the historic windows for weather proofing, painting inside and out, and refinishing the original Douglas fir floors.
BBCC board members announced that there is a $125,000 challenge match on the table from a generous donor to help close the campaign gap. All gifts or pledges made by Jan. 30, 2020, will be matched dollar for dollar.
Donors who give $1,000 or more can have their name or a message inscribed on a brick that will be incorporated into the entryway.
“Guilford residents have made this renovation happen with their support,” said BBCC board chair Sara Coffey. “With the campaign goal in sight, we hope everyone in Guilford and beyond will chip in to meet the challenge.”
