Hello and good day to you, residents of lovely Windham County, Vermont! I hope things are well with you. After what was, for some, the first accumulating snowfall of the year, we have a blast of Arctic air with which to contend Wednesday into Thursday morning.
Temperatures will then moderate through late week before one more cold shot in this trio of Arctic exhalations blows through on Saturday and Saturday night. Thereafter, we will begin a trend of milder and more seasonable temperatures with a chance of rain or mixed precipitation early next week.
With the weekly picture painted, let's fill in the details of each day.
For Wednesday, the morning will be the hardest hitting. Northwest winds will be blowing when we wake up, gusting 25-40 mph, but should slacken by afternoon.
Still, with low temps Wednesday morning in the mid to upper single digits, wind chill readings will be below or near zero in many areas, so bundle up! Highs will only reach the upper teens to mid 20s! A number of record lowest maximum temperatures are expected across the region.
It will be very cold Wednesday night with calm winds, clear skies, and lows in the upper single digits to low teens.
For Thursday, some milder air will be making a run at southern Vermont, and while there isn't a ton of moisture available, we should still see a mostly cloudy day with highs in the low to mid 30s. Lows will be dip into the mid 20s.
For Friday, we will get above freezing finally, as high pressure moves off to the east and allows high temps to rise into the mid 30s to low 40s under mostly sunny skies.
However, a dry cold front will work through the region Friday night, dropping temps into the teens, and fostering highs on Saturday only in the mid 20s to low 30s under mostly sunny skies. Lows Saturday night will be in the low to mid teens.
For Sunday, we'll see generally partly sunny skies as fair weather continues with highs in the mid to upper 30s. Clouds will build at night, and we'll be watching to see how close a coastal system gets and how fast it tracks north up the coast.
If it gets here fast enough and collides with night time cold in the 20s, we could see some snow or mixed rain and snow late at night into early Monday. It's a low chance for now, but one worth mentioning.
For Monday, high temps should hold in the mid to upper 30s with mixed rain and snow possible, before we begin to see temperatures increase into the 40s for Tuesday, which will be back to seasonable levels. Have a great week!
