After a balmy, and very windy Halloween Eve, our new deeper Autumn pattern has arrived, and as can happen, a pendulum swing to the colder side is up first before any milder reprisals swing through the region.
The next seven days will feature a cool but fair Wednesday followed by rain showers turning to accumulating wet snow, highest in the mountains for Thursday night into early Friday.
The coldest air of the new season is ushered in on blustery winds Friday into Friday night, with cold and fair weather Saturday. By Sunday night into Monday, more snow showers are possible, which will be followed by a second and even colder shot of Canadian air that may drop wind chills to the single digits by Tuesday!
With our weekly weather broad strokes brushed onto the page, let's dive into the dailies, shall we?
For Wednesday, high pressure will build through the region behind a departing cold front. Highs will reach the upper 30s to mid 40s under mostly sunny skies with west winds gusting to 20 mph at times. Lows will drop into the upper 20s to low 30s.
For Thursday, highs will rise into the upper 30s to mid 40s. At this time, a convergence of incoming surface low pressure from the Ohio Valley, along with a cold front and an upper level trough near the Great Lakes, will bring stormy weather to the region, including accumulating snow for the higher elevations.
We'll start off partly sunny, but quickly cloud over with a few rain or snow showers possible by late morning into the afternoon. As of this writing, the upper level trough looks to set up too far west, which will likely foster a storm track over northern Connecticut.
This will be too far north to produce a widespread plowable snow across the region. Still, many higher elevations areas will turn to all snow Thursday night into early Friday, and 1-4 inches of snow is possible there, with a coating or so in areas closer to the Connecticut River with lows in the 25-30 degree range.
For Friday, any snow ends, the cold front passes, and winter cold arrives! Highs will be only in the mid 20s to low 30s with west winds gusting to 20-30 mph, creating wind chills in the teens! Lows will crash into the mid to upper teens so bundle up Friday night.
Saturday is cold again with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 30s and lows in the low 20s.
We will moderate into the 40s for Sunday into Monday with lows in the 20s. Periods of rain and snow showers will mix with sunny periods as a couple of frontal boundaries pass through the region. Tuesday could see the coldest air yet, with very blustery conditions and highs in the 20s possible.
