WESTMINSTER — Regular Thursday Night Bingo returns to Compass School again this year to continue the fundraising efforts of Compass School's 11th grade class.
Every year, Compass 11th graders participate together in an international trip to a Spanish speaking country in the developing world. Compass is committed to ensuring every student can go on this trip, regardless of family income.
With more than 50 percent of Compass students eligible for free and reduced lunch, fundraising is essential to ensure everyone can take part in this life-changing travel experience.
Compass School hosted Thursday Night Bingo throughout the school last year with great success, attracting good sized crowds who consistently commented on how much they enjoyed the evening, according to a news release.
The normal schedule for Bingo at Compass is for the last Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. However, because of holidays, Bingo will be on the third Thursday for October (24), November (21), and December (19). The other dates for Bingo are Jan. 30, Feb. 27, March 26, April 23, May 28, and June 25.
There will be no Bingo in July, but it starts back up on the last Thursday of August.
The general public is warmly invited to join in this event, with all Bingo supplies available along with baked goods and refreshments for sale. Bingo cards will be sold for 50 cents per game, and cash prizes are awarded for every game.
All proceeds of the evening benefit the Compass junior class Global Connections trip.
The Global Connections Program focuses on cultural immersion and international understanding. It is an integral part of the junior class curriculum, inspiring students to broaden their horizons as global citizens.
It began in 2003 and, since then, Compass has had more than 160 participants travel to locations including the Mexico/Arizona border, Nicaragua, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Cuba.
