BRATTLEBORO — The New England Center for Circus Arts will present an end-of-program showing by participants in their Performance Boot Camp at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9, at the NECCA Trapezium at 10 Town Crier Drive.
NECCA hosts hundreds of students each year from around the world. Performance Boot Camp offers an opportunity to experience in a condensed way what it might feel like to train as a professional.
During the traditional school year, September to June, NECCA offers a three-year ProTrack program for committed students who audition from around the world. Graduates from that program grace the world's stages with companies including Cirque du Soleil, Cirque Eloize, 7 Fingers, and the Big Apple Circus.
The three-week Performance Boot Camp models a snapshot of the ProTrack experience so attendees can see what it takes to be a committed circus artist. The intensive short course is designed to help students improve their technical abilities as well as their grace and theatricality.
Daily classes incorporate group skill training with dance, acrobatics, theater classes, deep stretching, and focused conditioning with apparatus specific training. Each student applies with a specialty in mind and is paired with a professional coach from NECCA to work toward an act at the end of the three weeks.
Program Director Aimee Hancock draws together creative explorations and developed acts of the students to create this end-of-program show. Tickets are $5 at the door. For more information, visit www.necenterforcircusarts.org or call 802-254-9780.
