Good day to you, hearty humans in the land where winter won't seem to quit!
Admittedly, I did not see the recent Sunday and Monday snow threats looming when I wrote last week's column. It's amazing how small changes in the atmosphere 3,000 miles away can bloom into completely different atmospheric setups days later. The Butterfly Effect is certainly a real phenomenon, in my experience.
And while these late-season snowfalls in the hills of Windham County melted almost as soon as they accumulated, even seasoned Vermonters have to admit that two consecutive days of accumulating wet snow in the middle of May is not entirely unremarkable - I know it's been witnessed before.
With our wintry past now firmly in our past, we have warmer temperatures to look forward to, as well as a sweet and mostly sunny weekend!
Sandwiching our Saturday and Sunday will be more wet weather periods, so let's jump into the daily details and spell things out so you can get an impression of what's to come.
For Wednesday, we will finally be seeing some fresh high pressure move through the region as it wraps around a departing upper level trough that will be tracking east of New England. However, at the same time, a little disturbance will be diving southeast behind this quick-moving high pressure area.
What does this mean? It means that while Wednesday may start with a shower, it should be a drying day with mostly cloudy skies and some sunny periods during the day. Highs will reach the mid to upper 50s, with lows will dip down into the mid 40s.
Our aforementioned little disturbance will bring showers back into southern Vermont late Wednesday night into the first half of Thursday, when highs will reach the upper 50s to low 60s with partly sunny skies at times as well and a light northwest flow. Expect lows to drop into the low to mid 40s with an isolated shower possible.
Yet another northern stream storm system will dive southeast out of Ontario, Canada for Friday bringing more showers into the region with highs in the low to mid 60s and lows in the 40s.
High pressure should kick this system out to sea, and allow a mostly sunny, warm and beautiful weekend to unfold with highs in the mid 60s to low 70s and lows near 50 degrees.
Unfortunately, more showers are forecast for early next week, but highs should remain near 70 degrees. Have a great week!
