DUMMERSTON — On Saturday, May 4, at 6:30 p.m., The Stone Trust invites the public to a free guided tour of The Stone Trust Center located at Scott Farm, 707 Kipling Rd.
The tour will be followed at 7:30 p.m. by a presentation titled “Sermons in Stone,” given by author Susan Allport, on the history of New England stone walls.
The 45-minute tour will take in the dozens of demonstration and training walls and features at The Stone Trust Center. Learn about the different walls, types of stone, and how they are being used to keep the art and craft of Dry Stone Walling alive.
The tour will be led by Master Craftsmen Jared Flynn and Brian Post.
After the tour, Allport will present “Sermons in Stone,” which is based on her book of the same title and is one of the best books on the history of stone walls in New England. She will dive into the fascinating topics of who built the walls, when, why, and much more.
Open to the public, there is a suggested donation of $10 for the presentation. For the tour of the stone walls, wear footwear suitable for walking on grassy slopes. The tour will happen rain or shine, and no registration is required.
