Red Door’s concert season kicks off with ‘Spring Blossoms’

WILMINGTON — St. Mary's in the Mountains kicks off its 2019 Red Door Concert Season on Saturday, May 4, at 4 p.m., with Spring Blossoms at the Red Door, an afternoon of music welcoming spring.

According to a news release, vocalists, instrumentalists, and ensembles will offer choral, jazz, folk, Celtic, and even “Sixties” music, to benefit the Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center.

The concert will feature Valley Voices, a choral ensemble directed by Sue Maddern, with performers from throughout the region. Performances will blossom from a solo to duos to trios and more, growing as the program unfolds.

Performers will include Caitlin Sullivan, Kathleen Loomis-Ward, Eithne and Mike Eldred, Wren Young, and Holly and Joe Fortner, with musicians singing and playing recorder, flute, piano, guitar, and ukulele. Audience members will be encouraged to be part of the well-known finales.

Admission is by donation, with all proceeds to benefit the riding center. Founded in 2010, the center serves children and adults with physical, emotional, and cognitive needs in Windham County and the surrounding area.

The center works with organizations such as Families First, Kindle Farm, HCRS, and local elementary and high schools, as well as with individuals and their families, to provide equine-assisted activities and therapies.

SVTRC relies on the generosity of the community to offset programming costs and keep lessons affordable for all of its clients.

The concert takes place in the acoustically warm sanctuary at 13 E. Main Street, in Wilmington. For more information, visit www.smmvt.org/red-door-concerts.
