County Democratic Committee plans public interviews to select Sheriff candidates

PUTNEY — The Windham County Democratic Committee has been asked by Gov. Phil Scott to identify candidates for Windham County Sheriff.

With the impending retirement of Sheriff Keith Clark, his replacement will be appointed by the governor to serve out the remainder of the four-year term through the 2022 election.

Individuals who are interested in applying for this position should contact John Hagen, the WCDC chair, by email at [email protected] or by mail at P.O. Box 324, Putney, VT 05346, as soon as possible. For consideration, application materials need to be received by the WCDC no later than April 29.

According to a news release, the WCDC is considering the following factors in their candidate selection: knowledge of the law and law enforcement experience; business management and computer skills; demonstrated leadership; and experience with writing and administering grants.

The committee is also looking for candidates who support the principles of the Vermont Democratic Party platform. Candidates should be prepared to reside in Windham County if they receive this appointment.

The WCDC is committed to diversity and inclusion in law enforcement and encourages all interested individuals to complete an application.

The committee is also inviting public comment on issues and perspectives that should be considered in this selection process. Public comments and questions can be emailed to [email protected] until April 29.

A public listening session is scheduled for April 29, from 6 to 8 p.m., in the Community Room of the Brattleboro Food Co-op, 7 Canal St. All are invited to attend in person or participate on-line via zoom.us/j/628783538.

The WCDC will conduct interviews of the applicants on the evening of May 6, and the public is invited to observe. The location and exact time of these interviews are still to be determined.
