SAXTONS RIVER — The artwork of Fiona Morehouse will be on display at Main Street Arts through May 10 in a show entitled “Home At Heart.”
An opening reception will be held Thursday, April 18, from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
An artist and educator dividing her time between Putney and Vinalhaven, Maine, Morehouse has exhibited widely in the Northeast and on the West Coast.
In her artist statement, she describes her work as “a conversation between the heart, mind, and the soul” as she seeks to expand points of connection through grounded presence, exploring a sense of home place within the tension of human experience.
She paints predominantly with a palette knife and sometimes with her fingers, using vibrant color and rhythmic movement in a style of expressive realism.
“I like to invite connection and clarity to the chaos of the human experience in my work,” she said. “I imagine in vibrant colors, candid lines, and fertile textures and see myself recreating those landscapes on canvas and with clay.”
Morehouse's work can be found in private collections around the world. She has studied art in Italy, made art in India and taught art in New Zealand and Central America.
She has permanent public art installations in Washington and West Virginia, has been the founder and director of community-based art studios in Maryland and Oregon, and is founder, curator, and director of Alchemy Arte gallery and performance space in Putney. She also facilitates Root to Rise yoga and art workshops and retreats and has been artist-in-residence at The Grammar School in Putney.
She earned a BFA in fine art and music from McDaniel College and also studied ceramic art at Hood College and painting at the Art Students League.
