Good day to you, residents of the windy hamlets in southeastern Vermont! We've got another changeable weather week on the way.
We'll enjoy high pressure and partly to mostly sunny skies for Wednesday and Thursday before clouds build Friday, and rain moves in for Friday evening and night. Showers taper off Saturday morning and we'll enjoy a milder and generally dry weekend.
Clouds build back in for Sunday night, and rain possibly mixing with or changing to snow in the high terrain of Windham County will last into Monday with a strong storm system.
Having laid out our weekly weather table, let's detail the daily elements!
For Wednesday, high pressure begins to dive southeast out of the Great Lakes toward southern Vermont. This will produce a partly sunny day with highs in the low to mid 40s with northwest winds gusting over 20 mph at times. Expect lows to drop into the low to mid 20s for an unseasonably cold night heading into the middle of April.
For Thursday, winds slacken as high pressure crests through the region. Expect mostly sunny skies with highs in the mid to upper 40s and lows in the low 30s.
For Friday, clouds will increase as low pressure tracks to our northwest. This will send a cold front eastward through southern Vermont Friday night, and we'll see a substantial amount of rainfall with some thunder possible during this period. Highs should rise into the low to mid 50s.
Up to an inch of rain may fall, and southerly winds will gust 20-30 mph in advance of the front. Rain should hold off for most of the daylight hours, but arrive by evening and last through the night, with lows in the 40s.
For the weekend, we may see a few showers in the early morning with partly sunny skies developing as high pressure builds in for the weekend. Expect highs in the low to mid 50s on Saturday with lows in the 30s, with highs reaching the upper 40s to low 50s on Sunday with lows in the low 30s as clouds increase.
Sunday night into Monday could be quite interesting, and possibly wintry! Low pressure will be tracking towards the Ohio Valley on Sunday.
Whether or not this low tracks to our northwest and develops a secondary low over southern New England, or remains the only low pressure system and tracks just to our south, will make the difference between rain in the valleys with mixed rain and snow in the high terrain, or accumulating snow in the high terrain and a snow and rain mix in the valleys.
Much uncertainty exists, but Sunday night into Monday will feature inclement weather. Highs on Monday will be in the 30s to low 40s. Tuesday should feature calmer weather. Have a great week!
