Good day to you, residents of the windy hamlets in southeastern Vermont! After some mixed rain and snow Wednesday morning, our departing coastal storm will pull in strong westerly winds during the afternoon and evening that may gust over 40 mph at times.
A cool but fair Thursday will be followed by rainy Friday afternoon and evening with some snow possibly mixed in at times as a storm moves through the region.
Saturday looks mostly cloudy and Sunday looks partly sunny with milder temperatures. Early next week is uncertain, with more showers possible by Tuesday. With our weekly picture painted, let's jump into the details!
For Wednesday, a coastal storm will be tracking northeast away from Nantucket, and any morning rain or snow showers will be ending by mid-morning. Some coatings or very light accumulations are possible in southern Vermont, with the best chance located closer to the Connecticut River.
Sunny skies will develop as the storm pulls away, and highs should reach the mid to upper 40s with westerly winds developing. Wind advisories may need to be posted by the National Weather Service, as some gusts may exceed 40 mph for a time.
Windy conditions will last into the night, and then lighten a bit as lows drop into the mid to upper 20s.
For Thursday, expect a sunny day as high pressure quickly moves through the region. West winds could still gust 25 to 30 mph at times. Highs should reach the upper 30s to low 40s, with lows dropping into the low 20s under mostly clear skies, with some high clouds possible by Friday morning.
For Friday, expect clouds to build as another storm system approaches from the west. While it is not expected to be a big storm, a quarter to half inch of rain could fall.
In addition, some wet snow or sleet could mix into parts of the region during the afternoon and into the night before quitting by Saturday morning. Little to no accumulation is expected at this time. Highs look to reach the low 40s, with lows near the freezing mark.
For Saturday and Sunday, we enter a warming trend. Any morning mixed showers lead to a mostly cloudy day with highs in the upper 40s to low 50s, and lows in the 30s as a southwest flow develops.
Sunday will be the pick of the weekend with partly sunny skies and highs well into the 50s.
By early next week, the picture looks uncertain. Temperatures look to be mild with highs well into the 50s, but some showers are possible by Tuesday. Have a great week!
