Good day to you, hearty and heart-full New Englanders! The wind event this past Monday was widespread and very damaging, unfortunately.
It was due to the combination of two low pressure systems bombing out northeast of Nova Scotia, with very strong high pressure pushing east into the north-central United States. The resulting pressure gradient produced widespread 50 to 70 mph gusts.
For our upcoming week, we have accumulating snow on the way for Wednesday night into Thursday morning. After we dry out Thursday afternoon through Friday, we have more mixed precipitation on tap for Saturday and Saturday night, with a low chance for more light snow Sunday evening.
Cold conditions are expected early next week and a potential coastal snowstorm gives us lots to talk about, so let's jump in!
For Wednesday, clouds will be increasing quickly during the morning in advance of an Alberta Clipper system that will be tracking west to east through our region. Expect highs to reach the mid to upper teens with lows in the low teens.
To clarify, Alberta Clippers are generally small, wintry, land-based low pressure systems that emanate out of western Canada. With land-based origins, they are typically moisture-starved and produce snowfalls on the lighter range of the spectrum.
This one should produce about 2 to 4 inches of snow across the region, and will begin by mid to late afternoon and quit by early Thursday morning.
For Thursday, a partly sunny day will develop as low pressure continues east and out to sea. Highs will be in the mid to upper 20s with lows in the teens under partly to mostly cloudy skies.
For Friday, we'll enjoy another partly sunny day with highs near freezing and lows in the low 20s.
For Saturday, we will cloud back up again, and will be watching a double barrel low pressure system move northeast towards New England. One low will move northeast through northern New York, but a stronger secondary low will track off the coast, holding colder air into Windham County.
This should produce a period of accumulating snow that may mix with rain before turning back to snow Saturday night. Highs will be in the low 30s and lows in the teens.
Sunday through Tuesday will be fair and colder with highs in the 20s, with a low chance for light snow Sunday night. Have a great week!
