Weather roller coaster continues with icy Thursday and a cold, fair weekend

Good day to you, my friends, and as always thanks very much for your readership!

Our meteorological roller coaster ride continues to fling us hither and thither, and our upcoming week will be no different. Wednesday will see the end to a brief thaw as colder air works back into the region before low pressure approaches and produces an icing event Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

We'll then warm up with rain Thursday night into Friday, before we cool back down to a fair but cold winter weekend. By early next week, the cold looks to hold with the potential for light snow or wintry mix by Monday into Tuesday.

With our weekly summary in tow, let's dig into the daily details!

For Wednesday, we should start off mostly sunny, but clouds will build as the day wears on. Highs should be in the low 30s generally speaking. High pressure will track east from southern Quebec towards New Brunswick, while low pressure pushes northeast out of the Ohio Valley.

As this low approaches Wednesday night, a secondary low is expected to form near Long Island and track east.

Between the secondary low to our south, and high pressure draining cooler air from northeast to southwest into southern Vermont, we are expecting a period of freezing rain to develop Wednesday night into Thursday morning, with possibly some sleet or snow mixed in. Lows Wednesday night will drop into the upper 20s.

For Thursday morning, slippery roadways are expected for many in Windham County, so give yourself extra travel time in the morning.

Freezing rain may taper to freezing drizzle or plain drizzle after the precipitation shield tracks east away from us, which may prolong icing in the coldest spots. Expect highs in the mid to upper 30s.

A quieter afternoon brings another wave of low pressure, milder air, and plain rain to the region Thursday night into Friday. Lows Thursday night will be in the 30s and highs on Friday will be well into the 40s with showery conditions.

By Friday night, rain quits as a cold front comes crashing through the region bringing west winds that will gust to 30 mph, with lows plummeting into the teens.

The weekend looks cold but fair, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 20s Saturday with lows in the single digits, and highs in the mid 20s Sunday with lows in the teens, with increasing clouds and a snow shower possible.

Early next week continues with cold temperatures and a chance of snow or wintry mix. Have a great week!
