Kindergarten sign-ups begin in Brattleboro
BRATTLEBORO - Brattleboro Town Elementary Schools have begun kindergarten registration for children who turn 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2019.
Families who haven't received a registration packet through their child's preschool may request one by contacting Sally Brassor at the WSESU central office at 802-254-3730.
Registration paperwork and documentation should be returned to your child's preschool, or the WSESU central office, by Friday, Feb. 15. Contact WSESU Curriculum and Assessment Coordinator Julliane Eagan for more information or if there are questions about registration.
Stroll presents wedding and prom expo
BRATTLEBORO - On Sunday, Feb. 10, from noon to 4 p.m., Strolling of the Heifers presents A Country Wedding and Prom Expo at the River Garden, 157 Main St.
Venues, florists, caterers, bands, dresses for Vermont weddings, unique prom outfits, and that special something to tie it all together can be found at this free event.

Ideas for aging in place offered
BRATTLEBORO - Despite Vermont's having the second highest aging population in the nation, there are few housing options for seniors who want or need to downsize but want to stay in their communities. One option might be creating a senior co-housing community.
Senior Co-housing is a planned community of independent homes with neighbors within walking distance. Not a commune (no sharing of finances) but rather shared ownership of a common house and grounds governed by the community. More information can be found at sagecohoadvocates.org.
Could such a community be created locally? On Sunday, Feb. 10, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., Annamarie Pluhar will facilitate a preliminary discussion about aging in place in our part of the world. Pluhar is the founder of Sharing Housing Inc. and is a certified facilitator for Senior Co-housing “Study Group 1.”

BF Woman's Club to meet
BELLOWS FALLS - Members of the Bellows Falls Woman's Club will meet on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at the United Church on School Street, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
The program will be presented by Susan Shapiro of Valley Cares in Townshend. She will speak on the various offerings of this senior residential facility. Club members are reminded to bring nonperishable food and personal care items to be donated to Our Place Drop-in Center. It is suggested that members wear red in honor of American Heart Month.

Comedian will discuss techniques at Landmark
PUTNEY - The spring 2019 Landmark College Academic Speaker Series kicks off with the comedian and actor Rusty DeWees on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 7 p.m., in the Brooks M. O'Brien Auditorium, located in the East Academic Building.
Titled, “A Journey from Pumping Gas to Hollywood,” DeWees' presentation will share a bit about his process, his life, his unique take on the world, and anything else that comes to him in the moment.
DeWees is best-known for his character, “The Logger.” His one-man comedy show of the same name has played to sold-out theaters across New England for nearly two decades, and produced performance DVDs, CDs, and other related merchandise. DeWees studied acting at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York City and has appeared in numerous off-Broadway productions, as well as roles in television, film, and commercials.

'Night of True Stories' returns to MSA
SAXTONS RIVER - Local storytellers will share their life experiences in seven minutes each when Main Street Arts presents A Night of True Stories, Friday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m.
In the spirit of National Public Radio's The Moth Radio Hour, friends and neighbors will entertain with tales of pathos, mirth, adventure, loss, fright, and all the emotions in between. Stories are told live on stage without scripts, notes, props, or accompaniment.
Scheduled storytellers are MSA Director Heather Geoffrey, Connie Connors, actor Marit Bjerkadal, Vermont Academy student Devin Goldstein, craftsman Toby Lampert and artist and educator Jennifer Meehl.

Wantastiquet Rotary hosts “No Show” dinner
LONDONDERRY - The Wantastiquet Foundation invites everyone to participate in their second annual “No Show: Do Not Attend” Valentine's Day gala!
This non-event will benefit the Wantastiquet Londonderry Rotary Scholarship Fund, in honor of Dick Foley. The suggested contribution is $50.
RSVP to this no-show event by writing a check to the Wanatastiquet Foundation, P.O. Box 309, Londonderry, VT 05148. Last year's event raised a total of $6,000 that was distributed in scholarships in 2018 to local students.
