Selectboard awards contract for public art project
BRATTLEBORO — BRATTEBORO - The temporary mural at the Transportation Center is about to become permanent. The Selectboard approved allowing the artists who created the piece, Evie Lovett, Andy Wasserman, and Elizabeth Billings, to remove it and install a permanent project.
Originally titled “River Wall,” the artists recently changed the piece's name to “Ask the River."
At the Dec. 4 regular Selectboard meeting, the Board unanimously voted to authorize Town Manager Peter B. Elwell to execute a contract with the three artists.
No town funds will pay for the estimated $70,000 project, Elwell said, noting the artists are raising all of the money themselves.
Board approves BCJC grant efforts
BRATTLEBORO - The Selectboard unanimously approved allowing the Brattleboro Community Justice Center to apply for a $5,000 grant from the Thomas Thompson Trust.
At the Dec. 4 regular Selectboard meeting, Town Manager Peter B. Elwell noted the town serves as the BCJC's fiscal agent, thus requiring Board approval for grant applications.
The Board doesn't approve the grant funding, just whether the BCJC can apply for it.
The BCJC is seeking this funding to support a collaborative project to incorporate restorative justice practices into the ongoing work of local social service agencies.
