WEST BRATTLEBORO — The Brattleboro Area Jewish Community will host nationally renowned recording artist, performer, teacher, composer, and cantor Linda Hirschhorn for a weeklong residence from Oct. 30 to Nov. 3.
She will facilitate a program of three singing workshop/rehearsals open to people of all ages, faiths, musical backgrounds, and levels. These will be followed by a Friday night service and a Saturday evening concert open to the public, both with a choir composed of participants from the workshop.
All workshops will take place at the BAJC, 151 Greenleaf St., with dinner at 5:30 p.m. supplied by BAJC (included in cost) and workshops from 6:15 to 9:15 p.m. on Oct. 30 and 31 and Nov. 1.
Following the three days of workshops, the choir will sing tunes they've learned with Hirschhorn at a Friday night 7 p.m. service; a Saturday night public concert will follow at 7 p.m. in two parts, first with the choir and then as a solo performance of original stories and songs.
Both will take place at All Souls Unitarian Church in West Brattleboro. There is a suggested donation of $18 at the door.
Cantor Hirschhorn, the founder of Vocolot, the first Jewish women's a cappella ensemble, has released two songbooks and eight recordings of original material.
Her songs and choral arrangements have been published in major Jewish and folk anthologies, are performed by professional and amateur groups around the world, and have been used in video, radio documentaries, and dance scores.
