Good day to you, dwellers of the hills and valleys of southeastern Vermont! Our weather pattern has finally and completely flipped into deeper autumn, and we saw our first frost and high-elevation accumulating snowfall over the last weekend as well.
Foliage is soon to peak and pass, the chance for snow is slowly increasing, and the cycles of life continue.
In summary, we've got a cold front that will pass through Wednesday (which is today, if you're reading this paper on its publish date) which will bring breezy conditions and a few rain showers that may mix with snow in the hills.
This will be followed by a possible hard freeze into Thursday morning, as well as the coldest day on Thursday since six months ago. A hard freeze is likely by Friday morning.
Finally, aside from a few more showers on Saturday, we should be mainly dry, sunny and cool into early next week. Let's jump into the details!
For Wednesday, a cold front will be swinging through the region in robust fashion with scattered rain showers that will mix with or change to snow showers in the high terrain of Windham County as the lake effect engine kicks on for the first time this new cold season.
Expect highs in the mid to upper 40s, with lows plummeting behind the front down to the upper 20s to low 30s by Thursday morning. A hard freeze is possible for Windham County.
For our mostly sunny Thursday, winds will likely be gusting either side of 30 mph in spots as the coldest air of the new season rushes into southern Vermont.
In fact, wind chill readings may duck below 20 degrees in some mountain areas early Thursday morning, so bundle up! Highs will only reach the upper 30s to low 40s!
It will be mostly clear and calm at night, with temperatures again dropping into the upper 20s and low 30s with a hard freeze expected.
The growing season is ending, folks, if hasn't already ended from last weekend's frost.
Friday looks sunny with highs in the mid 50s as high pressure departs the region to the east, with lows in the 40s as clouds increase.
For Saturday, another cold front arrives with scattered showers expected and highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s, with a chance for snow to mix in with any rain showers.
The period of Sunday through Tuesday looks to be fair, with highs in the 40s and low 50s and plenty of sunshine. Have a great week!
