Good day to you, fine folks of Windham County in southern Vermont! Well, well, well, the heat and humidity has finally lost its clammy grip on our region as we pass through the Autumnal Equinox and continue our earthly back bend away from our star this fall.
Our incoming pattern shift couldn't be more well-timed! The equinox occurs at 9:54 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 22, and will be a day of drying and cooling after a brief warm surge on Friday.
Some showers are possible Sunday ahead of another cold front bringing even drier and cooler air for early next week. Let autumn begin! And with that, let's jump into the daily details!
For Wednesday, we will be drying out after our Tuesday deluge from the passage of Hurricane Florence's rainy remnants. After some early morning patchy fog, expect highs to rise only into the mid to upper 60s, which is seasonable for this time of year.
Mostly sunny skies during the day and partly cloudy skies at night with lows near 50 will prompt the opening of windows across southern Vermont, I would imagine. Dew point temperatures will plummet into the 50s by Wednesday night into Thursday.
For Thursday, an isolated shower is possible, otherwise expect partly sunny skies as high pressure moves to the east through northern New England. Highs will be in the mid to upper 60s with lows in the mid 50s as clouds increase at night.
For Friday, a warm front will lift through the region by the morning and bring scattered showers and increased humidity with dew point temperatures rising into the 60s.
Air temperatures will rise well into the 70s ahead of an incoming cold front that arrives Friday night. Scattered showers will be possible Friday night before we start to dry out and cool down into the 50s.
For Saturday, a beautiful, autumnal day arrives for the first day of autumn! Expect partly sunny skies, dry conditions, and very low humidity with highs in the 60s and lows in the upper 40s - cool and crisp!
For Sunday, another weak cold front will move through with some scattered showers. Otherwise expect partly sunny skies with highs in the 60s and lows in the upper 40s.
By early next week, we dry out even more with highs near 60 and lows in the 40s before a brief humidity rise by the middle of next week.
Beyond that, we receive a deeper intrusion of drier and cooler air. Say goodbye to summer, folks.
