Good day to you, citizens of the verdant Green Mountains and valleys of southern Vermont! We have had a very humid summer, with above normal rainfall. For some, that is one of the larger euphemisms they'll encounter.
Having said that, I've got good news and bad news. I'll give you the bad news first. We've got another round (and possibly two) of showers, downpours and thunderstorms to endure for this Wednesday morning and again in the afternoon. Some storms may be severe, and an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.
The good news? From Thursday into early next week, we will more likely than not be without rain during much of the upcoming period. Want even more good news? From Thursday through at least Saturday we will enjoy a sweet shot of early autumn air from our Canadian neighbors to the north. Thanks, Canada!
Okay, let's move on to the details, shall we?
For Wednesday morning, a warm front will be working through the region. This frontal boundary will be out ahead (i.e. east) of a large, strong low pressure system that will be careening northeast into the central Great Lakes region.
With a strong southwest flow behind it, very high humidity will be quickly advecting into southern Vermont during Wednesday morning. There will also be a considerable amount of wind shear overhead. This combination of frontal lift, wind shear, and high surface humidity could produce strong to severe thunderstorms, as well as gusty winds.
Expect highs in the low 70s and very muggy conditions with dewpoint temperatures also in the low 70s, producing air that is almost 100 percent saturated. In addition, a cold front moves through Wednesday afternoon which could spark another line of showers and thunderstorms.
For Wednesday night, much drier and cooler air rushes in behind the front, and dewpoint temperatures should crash into the 50s, with air temperature lows in the low 50s. Northwest winds may gust to 30 mph at times. It will be refreshing!
For the period of Thursday through Sunday, we can expect substantially drier and more pleasant weather conditions. Expect highs in the low 70s on Thursday, and the mid 70s for Friday through Sunday with plenty of sunshine! Lows will generally land in the mid to upper 50s.
Low humidity should dominate this time frame, although it should become more humid starting Sunday as Canadian high pressure moves east, and a southwest flow develops. We can't rule out scattered showers for Sunday. Warmer temperatures then move in by early next week, with showers possible by mid-week.
