Downpours, thunderstorms, humidity continues in region

Good day to you, southeastern denizens of the Green Mountain State! Man oh man, has a tropical air mass overtaken our region!

The atmospheric setup that has provided us with this soupy and sultry set of days has paired high pressure out over the western Atlantic Ocean with low pressure over the Great Lakes.

Given the counterclockwise flow to the west of us, and the clockwise flow to the east of us, an area of convergence (i.e. air coming together) has formed over the East Coast, which continues to siphon tropical air from the Bahamas right up the eastern seaboard into southern Vermont.

While the low pressure system to our west will win this tropospheric tug-of-war (and push our muggy mess east and out to sea by late this weekend), humidity along with more showers and thunderstorms is slated to return to our hills and dales by early to mid next week. Having painted that picture for you, let's jump into the details!

For Wednesday, scattered showers, downpours and thunderstorms will move back into the region throughout the morning, afternoon and evening, as low pressure to our west begins its final approach through our region.

Some storms may become strong with damaging wind gusts, and flash flooding will be possible, both for small streams, as well as streets. Expect highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 60s with patchy fog possible late as dew point temperatures will hover near our low air temperatures.

For Thursday, showers, downpours and thunderstorms are expected as a cold front moves through the region. By late afternoon and evening, we should see any activity wane as the front clears to the east, with clouds breaking up over the region. Expect highs in the low 80s and lows in the low to mid 60s with scattered showers possible.

For Friday, we'll enjoy a partly to mostly sunny day, and a brief drop in humidity before a secondary cold front moves through during the afternoon and evening. This will produce more scattered showers and thunderstorms for the region. Expect highs in the mid 80s and lows in the low 60s as humidity relents on Saturday, and especially Sunday.

The weekend looks gorgeous with highs in the low 80s, plenty of sunshine, lower humidity, breezy conditions, and lows in the upper 50s. Humidity, scattered showers and thunderstorms return after this weekend. Have a great week!
