Good day to you, hearty southern Vermonters! How's the heating been treating you?
This writer has consequently withered down into a soup ingredient due to all this heat and humidity. I am admittedly much happier in colder climes, but for the summer lovers out there, this is your weather!
We can expect our heat wave to continue through Thursday which includes the 4th of July holiday. Showers and thunderstorms will accompany a cold front Friday, and bring sweet relief for this weekend which looks cooler, sunny, dry and gorgeous - to the details!
For Tuesday, we will have a weaker cold front that will be pushing southeast through the region. With dew point temperatures in the upper 60s to low 70s combined with high temps in the low to mid 90s for many in southern Vermont, we will have plenty of moisture available for scattered showers and thunderstorms.
A few storms could become strong with heavy rain and gusty winds. Any showers and storms that do form should wane by night time. Expect lows in the low 70s and high humidity to continue, which may create some patchy morning fog.
For the 4th of July on Wednesday, the weather will be most appropriate for this summer holiday. We should see partly to mostly sunny skies, especially the further north you go in Windham County.
Some afternoon showers and thunderstorms may provide some natural fireworks, but that threat will be most likely south of the border into western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. Expect highs again in the low to mid 90s with lows in the upper 60s with continued humid conditions.
For Thursday, we should endure the final day of our 5-6 day heat wave, the first of its kind since July of 2013. It will be mostly sunny and hot with highs in the low to mid 90s and lows in the low 70s with high humidity continuing.
For Friday, a strong cold front will be approaching from the northwest and this will be the transition from hot and humid weather to drier and more seasonable temperatures.
As the front moves through, we can expect strong to possibly severe thunderstorms with scattered showers as well. Highs will crest in the low to mid 80s with lows dipping into the upper 50s with showers possible at night as well.
The weekend looks amazing! Expect sunny and dry conditions, with highs near 80 degrees and lows in the 50s, with temps rising a bit by early next week.
