Good day to you, southern Vermonters! This past Monday was certainly a dynamic and severe weather day.
Several wall clouds and funnel clouds were reported in Northampton, Granby, and Belchertown, Mass., and Durham, N.H., and an EF-0 tornado touched down in northern New Hampshire! There were also multiple wind damage reports around Windham County.
Anyway, it was a rough day, and we got very lucky that tornadoes didn't actually touch down in Windham County! The next seven days looks much calmer, so let's jump into the details!
For Wednesday, a fairly dry cold front will be dropping south out of Canada and move through the region from north to south. This will create partly sunny skies on average, with clouds hopefully holding off until later in the day. Expect highs in the mid to upper 70s and lows in the mid 50s under partly cloudy skies.
For Thursday, high pressure will slide through New England, and bring sunny skies with it with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the upper 40s. With very low dewpoint temperatures expected in the upper 30s, we will enjoy gorgeous night time weather for sleeping!
For Friday, high pressure will slide east off of the New England coastline and allow us to warm up into the upper 70s to low 80s with continued sunny skies and lower humidity. Lows should drop into the mid 50s with clouds increasing overnight into early Saturday morning.
For Saturday, we will still enjoy partly sunny skies, but more moisture will be advecting into the region, causing clouds to build overhead. Meanwhile, an area of low pressure will track north of our region and drape a west-southwesterly-to-east-northeasterly oriented cold front into southern Vermont.
This will serve to focus moisture, lift and converging air to produce showers Saturday afternoon and evening, with some thunderstorms possible. Expect highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s. Showers and scattered thunderstorms will be possible again on Sunday with highs in the upper 70s and lows in the upper 50s.
By Monday, the front will be cleared to our south and east, and we will enjoy high pressure, sunny skies and highs in the low to mid 70s both days with lows near 50 degrees. Have a great week, and Happy Solstice!
