SAXTONS RIVER — Professional puppeteer Shoshana Bass will lead a Puppet Camp at Main Street Arts beginning Monday, June 25.
The five-day camp will meet from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day and is for ages 8 to 12.
Participants will build a variety of simple puppets of different sizes, embellish them with character and costume, and learn techniques for animating the puppets and creating story with them.
At the end of the week, there will be an informal showing for friends and family to celebrate the week of puppetry. In addition to the puppetry, there will be group-building games and focusing exercises to get the creative energy flowing.
Bass grew up in the puppet world of Putney's Sandglass Theater and is carrying on the tradition begun by her parents, Eric Bass and Ines Zeller Bass, who raised her in a traveling family of internationally acclaimed puppeteers in which she experienced the artistic voices of diverse cultures, heritages, and perspectives.
A graduate of Naropa University with an interdisciplinary degree in performing arts, peace studies, and tai chi, Bass has performed and choreographed in Poland, the Virgin Islands, Germany, and the U.S.
