Spring continues to settle in

Showers expected this weekend

Good day to you, southern Vermonters! Aside from a few chilly mornings, spring continues to settle into our region. Leaf-out is underway, lawns are greening up, and Old Man Winter (stubborn as he's been) is finally ambling off well to our north.

While he sleeps it off for the next six months, we can finally enjoy the 2018 warm season. We've got a mix of fair and inclement weather to move through during the upcoming week, so let's jump into the details!

For Wednesday, high pressure will be slowly departing to the east and out into the western Atlantic Ocean. This will give us one more full day of dry, sunny weather with highs in the mid 70s and lows in the mid to upper 40s. Some early morning patchy fog or clouds are possible before any such cloud material evaporates (aka “burns off”).

For Thursday, we may start with some sunshine in the morning, but clouds will be building into the region by mid-day as a warm front approaches the region.

Showers are possible by afternoon, and some gusty south winds could blow to 30 mph at times. Expect highs in the upper 60s to low 70s with lows in the mid to upper 40s with continued scattered showers.

A cold front will cross the region during the pre-dawn hours on Friday morning, sweeping any showers out to sea to the east.

For Friday, we will have a cooler day with plenty of sunshine. Expect highs in the upper 50s to low 60s and lows in the upper 30s to low 40s as clouds build back into the region.

For Saturday through Monday, we will be dealing with inclement weather the way it looks as of this writing. There will be a large storm positioned well to our west over the Great Lakes region.

This storm system will float its warm front toward our region Saturday with scattered showers developing out ahead of it over southern Vermont. Expect highs in the mid 60s and lows in the low 50s.

For Sunday, the warm front moves through the region, focusing more showers over Windham County. Expect highs in the low 70s and lows in the mid 50s. For Monday, the storm system passes north of us, dragging its cold front through with even more showers. Expect highs in the low 70s and lows in the 50s.

We should dry out by Tuesday. Have a great week!
