WESTMINSTER — Thursday Night Bingo returned to Bellows Falls with great success in January at Compass School. Compass hopes to make this a regular community event, and has scheduled their next Bingo Night for Thursday, March 29, at 6 p.m.
Organized by the Compass 11th-grade class, proceeds from the evening help ensure that every student, regardless of economic circumstance, can participate in the international trip to Nicaragua this April.
With more than 50 percent of Compass students eligible for free and reduced lunch, fundraising is essential to ensure everyone can take part in this life-changing travel experience.
The first Bingo Night in January was well attended by members of the community and Compass families and students, all of whom commented on what a wonderful time they had. The general public is warmly invited to join in this event, with all bingo supplies available along with baked goods and refreshments for sale. Bingo cards will be sold for 50 cents per game, and prizes will be awarded for every game.
All proceeds of the evening benefit the Compass junior class Global Connections trip to Nicaragua. The Global Connections Program focuses on cultural immersion and international understanding. It is an integral part of the junior class curriculum, inspiring students to broaden their horizons as global citizens.
The Global Connections Program began in 2003 and since then Compass has had more than 160 participants travel to locations including the Mexico/Arizona border, India, Nicaragua, Ecuador, the Dominican Republic, Peru, and Cuba.
