PUTNEY — The documentary series [framed] continues at Next Stage in Putney on Thursday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m., with When the Levees Broke, Spike Lee's 2006 documentary film about the devastation of New Orleans following the failure of the levees during Hurricane Katrina.
The film was shot in late August and early September 2005, premiered at the New Orleans Arena on Aug. 16, 2006, and was first aired on HBO the following week, according to a news release. Parts 1 and 2 of the four-part series will be shown, followed by a conversation with the film's archivist, Judith Aley.
Aley is an archival researcher and producer for documentary and feature films. Her credits range from many projects with Lee, the Showtime series on climate change, Years of Living Dangerously, Shola Lynch's Free Angela & All Political Prisoners, Michael Moore's Capitalism: A Love Story and Sicko, and Amir Bar Lev's The Tillman Story.
She recently completed Nathaniel Kahn's documentary about the contemporary art world, The Price of Everything, which premiered at Sundance in 2018.
[framed] is a presentation by Next Stage Arts Project. Conceived in collaboration with former Tribeca Film Festival director Nancy Schafer, the series continues with the active collaboration of an outstanding group of local documentary filmmakers.
