Thanksgiving weather cooperates with cold, fair conditions expected

Good day to you! It appears that Thanksgiving travel plans and events will be free of any substantial weather impacts, other than perhaps a few snow showers to start the day Wednesday morning and some northwest wind gusts over 20 mph.

Should you be hitting the road early on Wednesday morning, some snowflakes may be flitting about, but aside from that potential and a few wind gusts, we've got clear sailing (or should I say driving) ahead! Let's jump into the details!

For the time being, we remain in a zonal pattern. What does that mean? A zonal flow refers to weather systems that travel more or less west to east in orientation. The opposite would be an “amplified flow”, also known as meridional in nature.

Given this setup, we're seeing a number of Great Lakes storm systems drag their warm and cold front pairs through southern Vermont. This allows us to enjoy milder temperatures after the warm front passes, and then cool down on the back side of the cold frontal passage.

Tuesday night into Wednesday and late Friday night into Saturday will be no different. Otherwise, we'll experience mainly fair and seasonable weather for the next week.

For Tuesday, we will warm up to near 50 degrees for highs in the valley areas under sunny skies as southwest winds gust 20 to 30mph behind a warm frontal passage. Lows will drop into the low to mid 30s with some scattered rain showers, that may change to snow by Wednesday morning.

For Wednesday, it will be cloudy early with partly sunny skies later in the day as cooler air spills behind our cold front. Northwest winds will gust 20-30mph at times with highs in the low 40s and lows near 20 degrees as colder air continues to move in under clear skies.

For Thanksgiving Day, we can expect a cold and sunny with highs in the low to mid 30s and lows in the mid 20s. Friday will be similar but a few degrees warmer both during the day and at night.

For Saturday, we will see another storm race to our northwest, bringing scattered showers of rain and snow as the front moves through, with highs in the low 40s and lows in the upper 20s.

The period of Sunday through next Tuesday looks colder than average, with highs only in the upper 20s to mid 30s during the period. Fair weather is expected at this time.

Have a great week, and Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours!
