Late autumn weather sticks around

Snow on Thanksgiving? Possible.

Good day to you, dweller and haunter of the hills and valleys of southeastern Vermont! It was bound to happen, and happen it surely did! Deeper autumn has arrived in southern New England, and it is here to stay.

Certainly, some milder periods will work in at times through the end of the year, but the endless mild and warm periods that characterized the first half of fall have been squashed to the south. We've got cool and cold weather on the way, with periods of mixed rain and snow, with some light accumulations possible. Into the details we jump!

For Wednesday, high pressure will nose southeast through the region, and give us a sunny day with highs in the low 40s. However, clouds will increase fairly quickly by the afternoon.

This is due to an approaching warm front that will be extended to the southeast from its parent low-pressure system tracking east into southeastern Canada. Lows Wednesday night should slip into the low 30s as the front brings attendant precipitation over southern Vermont, likely in the form of snow at first. A coating to an inch of snow is possible through Thursday morning.

For Thursday, any morning snow showers will most likely turn to rain, and then quit around mid-day, with highs in the low to mid 40s. The associated cold front (every storm has a warm front and cold front paired with it) will sweep through Thursday evening, and cool us down to the mid 20s with some more scattered snow showers possible.

For Friday, we'll enjoy plenty of sunshine, but it will be much cooler with highs in the mid to upper 30s and breezy conditions behind the front. Lows will be in the low to mid 20s as clouds increase ahead of the next storm system. In fact, it's possible that more light snow is possible late Friday night into early Saturday as a more robust storm system floats its warm front through the region.

For Saturday, any snow showers turn to rain showers, and we could get some decent rain totals, with light snow accumulations in the high terrain. Highs will be in the low 40s and lows in the mid 30s, with continued showers of rain and snow possible.

Sunday through Tuesday looks cooler with highs in the low to upper 30s during the period and lows in the 20s. Some lake effect snow showers are possible on Sunday after the cold front works through. Thanksgiving could feature rain and snow, so stay tuned, and have a great week!
