Guilford Fair on Labor Day weekend

GUILFORD — The two-day Labor Day weekend Guilford Fair opens Sunday, Sept. 6, and runs from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Guilford Fairgrounds, off Weatherhead Hollow Road. Festivities continue on Monday during the same hours.

“It's a small country fair,” said David Franklin, president of the fair board, who listed enough country fair events, competitions, demonstrations, performances, eating opportunities, livestock in attendance, horse show judging, dog agility demonstrations, craft and handiwork exhibits and vegetable displays to entertain even the most jaded country fair attendee.

Competitions and demonstrations include skills for working farm horses, livestock judging, events for small farm animals and food preparation by local eighth graders. An ice cream eating contest, chicken barbecue, seafood booth and a french fry vendor are just some of the food choices.

Afternoon amusement park rides, musicians, open mics, horse shoe pitching, sheep shearing, a King Arthur Flour baking contest, a rabbit show, a chainsaw artiste, and other delights too numerous to mention round out the amusements.

Performers from Nimble Arts, a Brattleboro circus school, will be in attendance.

Last year attendance topped 4,000, according to Franklin, who expects big crowds this year.
