BRATTLEBORO — The United Way of Windham County is seeking local heroes from area towns, companies, schools, and civic organizations to participate in volunteer service projects across Windham County on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon, for its eighth annual Day of Caring.
Day of Caring volunteers choose from a variety of projects addressing the needs of local organizations and public partners. Last year, more than 400 hours of volunteer time was logged in one day.
The day will begin for volunteers at 8 a.m. with a kick-off breakfast at the American Legion in Brattleboro. Then, at 9 a.m., volunteers will spread out to sites throughout Windham County to provide volunteer service.
“The Day of Caring is an easy way to feel like you're doing something lovely for your community in a relatively short amount of time. We always meet new people and learn about new local nonprofit organizations,” said a volunteer from 2016's Day of Caring.
Day of Caring is sponsored by Holstein Association USA, People's United Bank, The Richards Group, and SIT, with in-kind support from C&S Wholesale Grocers, the American Legion, Leader Distribution Systems, and Farrell Distributing Corporation.
2017 Day of Caring project sites include:
• Brattleboro - Big Brothers Big Sisters of VT; Bonnyvale Environmental Education Center; Brattleboro Area Hospice; Groundworks Drop-In Center; Groundworks Shelter; The Family Garden; Camp Waubanong; Vermont Foodbank Distribution Center; Winston Prouty Center for Child & Family Development
